  • 27 January 2009 07:40pm: GFC GFC GFC GFC GFC GFCGFCGFCGFCGFCGFCGFCGFC aieeeee! Can't you talk about anything else?
  • Yesterday at 09:57am: When my credit with Crucial runs out I'm going to switch my Australian hosting provider. They are that bad. Need an Aussie slicehost.
  • Yesterday at 02:58pm: It makes me nervous when the guy at the professional lab asks me if my C-41 film is transparency or negative.
  • Yesterday at 07:22pm: Bloody train driver forgot to stop at my stop. Now have to wait half hour to get back. If I knew how far I might walk.
  • Yesterday at 07:29pm: The bell birds are singing like bells here as the sun sets. If I weren't so mad at CityRail it would be pleasant.
  • Today at 07:05am: Train bothered to stop to pick us up this morning. It used to be a given, but after yesterday not so sure.
  • Today at 04:56pm: Good D700: being able to use the aperture ring on MF lenses. Bad D700: not being able to use aperture ring on AF lenses.
  • Today at 07:57pm: Happy to report the train driver bothered to stop at my (scheduled) stop today. Will wonders never cease?

In 2007 I went with some friends to Melbourne (among other places). The camera that I brought, a Nikon FE broke on me and so i went to the camera store to get a replacement. They don't make 'em like the FE anymore, but I was able to get an over priced Nikon FM that worked with all of the lenses that I had brought. I had a few hours on my own while my friends went to see the penguins so I bought three really cheap rolls of film and had at it. Melbourne is quite photogenic, although it's no Sydney.

Kim [Jan. 2nd, 2008|11:42 pm]

Today right before I left work I asked Kim how her vacation was. Not good, she answered. Not enough excitement, she said. Only one amazingly beautiful sunset, she said. My instinct was to point out that some people live their whole lives and only get to see one amazingly beautiful sunset if they are lucky.

I was leaving (mentioned) and I was just trying to be friendly. The America in me wants people just to answer in short positive statements regardless of actual mood. The rest of me doesn’t like that, but it is hard to deny that it is there.

SOAP::Lite is like a mule. You can often coax it into doing what you want it to do, but not without a lot of headache. SOAP::Lite reminds me that designing good APIs is not easy. The Perl community, despite a lot of good work, has unfortunately produced some turkeys; there are warts everywhere. Boxing Day this old lady declared that if everyone just did as she said then the world would be a better place. I think anyone writing an API is something like that: either arrogant or deluded. Usually both.

Needless to say I spent the whole day coaxing SOAP::Lite

SMB Tuba [Mar. 17th, 2006|09:52 pm]

I was down at Circular Quay yesterday with Torbin and Judy (friends of my mother's) and I heard someone playing the Super Mario Bros. theme on a tuba. It reminded me of my friend Tyler who is a sound designer for EA. On our sojourn through the botanical gardens, we ran into a guy who works for Condi Rice, who was apparently down here at the time.

There were helicopters buzzing about like mad all day. Torbin and Judy opined that they were there to offer protection to the sec-state. After her time in Sydney, she went down to Melbourne to watch the commonwealth games. I watched a little of the games on the TV. England and Scotland compete separately for these games, and Australia dominates the swimming and the bicycling.

I took a number of pictures of the opera house when I wasn't being rudely shooed away by foreign tourists with their own, apparently more important, cameras:

Autumn
Ok, this is the last entry for tonight, I promise. I was on the top of Breakneck Ridge for magic hour today, and I had my new digital camera with me.
Brad: RedHanded
We've been coming out of our hikes later and later lately. Here is a portrait of brad from a few weeks ago. I call it Red Handed.
